Finally MEL has a venue that accepts Priority Pass in T1 (Qantas terminal). It’s called Pope Joan and located in the food court as you go through security. I’ve still to try it but it looked pretty nice from across the tables. Priority Pass holders can spend the usual - up to $36 although I suspect AMEX comp PP holders won’t get this benefit but all others will.
I have the Prestige (unlimited) Priority Pass membership which I bought through Accor ALL for €390 / $625. It works well for me with fairly regular travel and having the choice of a lounge if there is one, or $36 restaurant credit which I believe is being increased this year.

I mispoke - I meant the Amex Plat Charge card that costs $1400 comes with a Priority pass which doesn't allow restaurant credit.

It's unfortunate that despite paying $1,400 fees - your priority pass is considered a lesser card at restaurants.

I’m not sure how you are paying $1,400.
